Section XI Finals Mat

“On Saturday, February 25th, Section XI [better known in these parts as Suffolk County] won an unprecedented 20th NYS Intersectional Wrestling Title.  During a December 2011 meeting of the Suffolk County Wrestling Coaches Association [SCWCA] at the offices of TW Promotions, an idea to purchase a large Suffolk County mat was discussed.  It was to be used just once each year, and only for the Section XI  finals. Since RESILITE Sports Products and TW Promotions have been providing mats and sponsorship for the Section XI championships for many years they were asked to create a unique design.  RESILITE developed a graphic layout, and a 54’ x 54’ “LiteWeight” mat was purchased and used at this year’s Championship Finals.  This is the largest legal size wrestling mat which can be used in competition, and because of this the matches had more action and less time was used for restarts.

The names of Dr. L. Robert Fallot and Betsy Turk are painted on the mat in honor of their years of service to the Suffolk County wrestling community.  In addition, all 20 years of Section XI’s NYS Intersectional Team titles are painted in bold numbers. “Doc” Fallott was the first “sports medicine” doctor on Long Island.  He donated his time and medical services at many holiday and Section XI tournaments and was the team doctor for Suffolk County at the NYS Championships for many years.  Betsy Turk was a long time scorer for Amityville HS and the league and county tournaments within Section XI.  She also sang our National Anthem on many occasions.

Because RESILITE is the only wrestling mat manufacturer in the USA to produce a lightweight mat with a spray painted surface, future team titles with updated letters and graphics can be applied by TW Promotions as needed.  Expect to see this mat used in the Suffolk County finals for many years to come.”
